CCW Petition Drive Suspended!

February 2, 2012 -- I had hosted here on my website a petition, mainly sponsored by Ignatius Piazza of Front Sight, that was intended to take away the arbitrary power of the local Sheriff to accept or deny applicants attempting to obtain a concealed carry weapon permit. This petition drive has been suspended as of today.

Dave Clark was the proponent who wrote the California Shall Issue Concealed Carry proposition that Dr. Piazza had funded. There has been considerable resistance towards the petition drive, especially from Cal-Guns. While disturbing that some California gun owners were actually opposing the petition campaign, one of the issues that were presented has merit.

Since our beneficent California Legislature has banned open carry beginning this year, this gives standing to a couple of cases that are now bound for the Supreme Court. These include Richards v. Prieto and Peruta v. San Diego. Mr. Clark has been convinced that he should withdraw his petition and allow these cases to proceed toward a hopeful, successful conclusion, thus properly positioning California to gain Shall Issue Concealed Carry Status through the courts, instead of the ballot box.

Mr. Clark agreed to withdraw his CA Shall Issue Concealed Carry ballot initiative this cycle to give the legal actions currently in progress an opportunity to succeed, but if not, he received the assurance that a UNIFIED California Shall Issue CCW will be targeted for the 2014 election cycle that ALL pro gun groups in California will support in placing on the ballot, and will work together to win.

In light of our current government-caused economic distress, I wish to do my part by discounting 60% off any fee for any repeat shooters to the same AllSafe Instructional course. That's right! Instead of paying $100 to come back within twelve months and shoot either the AllSafe Basic or Intermediate Handgun or Shotgun or Urban Rifle course, you'll pay only $40. AllSafe Basic Handgun Schedule Change

Starting this year, I am combining the two sessions of the AllSafe Basic Handgun classes into one weekend session. The old way of splitting the classes over two days has made it difficult for folks who live a considerable distance away. Two trips to Orange, while lovely, may burn a lot of gas.

So the new start time will be 7 a.m. at AllSafe. We'll go over the same material including terminology, fundamentals, and lethal force and the laws. Then, at 9 a.m., we'll pack up our gear and head to Burro Canyon, planned ETA 10 a.m..

It means for a longer day, but only a little later (perhaps a half hour) due to the drive. So, no more evening basic classes at AllSafe. We'll combine it into one long and thoroughly enjoyable day.

Hopefully everybody will find this new schedule more better...

Burro Canyon Rain Policy

As we get into the winter months, rain--especially at Burro Canyon--becomes a factor. Because we use a substantial amount of cardboard silhouette targets, the live-fire sessions need to be cancelled (the targets begin to dissolve...).

And so, I usually drive to the location in hopes that the Lord will bless me and my class with dry weather, and to commiserate with any hearty soul who braved the elements to attend.

For any exterior class that gets rained out, each participant will be immediately invited to the next class occurrence. If the participant cannot attend at the next available date, they will be given a full refund of any pre-paid class fees.
