AllSafe's unique StreetSMART workouts provide personal training in everything from basic awareness, assault avoidance, full-contact street fighting, to firearms training. Orange County: making the CCW impossible to obtain? I just received an E-mail from the Orange County Sheriff declaring that all candidates for CCW, either brand new or two year renewal will need to attend a POST certified course at a local community college. Gregg Bouslog of the On-Target Range has asked for a meeting with the Sheriff to clarify. It appears that there is no live-fire component! Or, there is for cadets who are enrolled as Criminal Justice majors, training to join law enforcement agencies. How civilians who merely want to exercise their Constitutionally-guaranteed right to "bear arms" is not clear. This new requirement starts September 1st. Stay tuned. NRA Personal Protection Courses The NRA offers two separate and distinct defensive handgun courses: Personal Protection in the Home and Personal Protection Outside the Home. The In the Home course is a one-day course to teach people how to set up and fortify their home to minimize the chance of having to confront an intruder. It's a good stress-fire course of fire which includes clearing stoppages, shooting from cover, and the alarming Tueller Drill. The Outside the Home course is a two-day course which offers training in employing a concealed firearm. It necessarily starts with the draw stroke and aggressively moves into engaging multiple targets, shooting while moving and engaging targets from in front, in back, and from either side. Both courses have a lethal force component, taught by my favorite police officer (Vic Brown) who walks the participants through a couple very challenging shoot/no-shoot scenarios. PPITH Instructor is coming up this month (September 18-19). The PPOTH student course is coming up October 16-17! |
